Description
DIN, the German Institute for Standardisation, is Germany’s national standards body, representing national interests within European and international standardisation bodies such as CEN and ISO. As a central hub for standardisation expertise in Germany, DIN plays a key role in connecting stakeholders from industry, government, academia, and civil society to the global standards system.
HSbooster’s cooperation with DIN has been strategic and multifaceted, combining direct project support, event participation, and active dialogue to foster stronger connections between research and standardisation.
The collaboration began with stakeholder engagement efforts, as DIN was among the majority of European National Standards Bodies that HSbooster, through its partner Dansk Standard, approached to create ongoing dialogue across the standardisation landscape. This relationship provided insights into Germany’s national priorities and contributed to shaping HSbooster's support services for EU-funded projects.
DIN also played a key role in facilitating the standardisation pathway of the i-Tribomat project, which aimed to develop a CEN Workshop Agreement (CWA) in the field of tribology. With no active Working Group available at the time, DIN served as a key intermediary between the project and CEN-CENELEC, helping to initiate a roadmap for a future tribology-related CWA. This case exemplifies DIN’s practical contribution to bridging the gap between innovation needs and standardisation structures.
In the area of capacity building, DIN has contributed directly to HSbooster’s training initiatives. Christian Goroncy, Senior Project Manager at DIN, joined the HSbooster Training Academy Session 6 as a guest speaker, where he provided insights into how DIN supports research projects and the role of DIN SPECs in advancing innovation. DIN also hosted the Second Interactive Conference on Education about Standardisation at its Berlin headquarters, where HSbooster presented its “Serious Smiley Game” as part of a broader effort to promote learning through gamification.
Through this collaboration, DIN has reinforced its role as a key enabler of research-to-standards pathways. The cooperation supports HSbooster’s mission to align research outputs with European and international standards, increase researchers' awareness of standardisation opportunities, and strengthen the overall impact of EU-funded projects.
